Although I insist the building of the outdoor theater was all about the grandchildren, I loved the idea of Cafemom's annual Chicks & Flicks Night.
So, late into Season Three, I hosted my first Ladies Only Night.

Starting 3 or 4 days before Movie Night, I send an email a day to the attendees. The above flyers are examples of the first such emails. Ideas for the flyers were found on (Where else?) BackyardTheater.com

Seniors + Kids

One party, two distinctly different age groups (Senior Citizens and the Still-in-Elementary-School Crowd).

The assignment:
Entertain both.

The set-up:


STEP 1
Place the buffet table, hors d'oeuvres, champagne, and croissant sandwiches on one side of the room.
Add card tables and chairs.
STEP 2
Place the portable screen, P & J sandwiches, popcorn machine, and mini cupcakes on the other side of the room.
Turn off the volume.
Add four Mario and Luigi hats just for fun.

STEP 3
Two hours into the party,
remove the tables, move the screen to the center of the room, rearrange the couches and chairs, and show a movie everyone can enjoy.
